A Big and Growing Problem
Hear Jeff Witcoski, US Forest Service, and Chuck Dennis, Colorado State Forest Service, talking about the pine beetle in Ponderosa Pine. An excellent discussion of the current status of the pine beetle infestation along the Front Range: Audio
For a more in depth analysis of this problem see: Jeff Witcosky's full report. Note that Jeff was kind enough to share a draft with us and this is not his final report. Some changes may be made before the final report is published. This report only contains recommendations and as such should be considered within the larger context of the management objectives of the landowner.

Getting Some Help
The Larimer County Tree Farmers will host its second and LAST Mountain Pine Beetle Workshop and Tour in Larimer County for 2009.
This event will give forest landowners and the public at large an opportunity to take part in:
- a presentation on the spread and current status of the beetle in Larimer County and along the Front Range.
- a tour of an infested area and description of the work being done to slow the infestation
- a demonstration on how to identify the various bark beetles present here
- treatment demonstrations
- equipment demonstrations
- some supplies andequipment for sale
- plus an opportunity to meet and talk with many local forestry professionals, some county and state officials, and reliable contractors available to assist private landowners
Everyone should be concerned about the rapid spread of the beetle along the Front Range and the larger and more intense wildfires that may result. Those attending this workshop will be able to find up-to-date information, a wide variety of treatment options, and all sorts of contacts with contractors and organizations who can assist them.
This workshop is FREE
and open to the public.
